Turtle Island

This is, of course, a story of pirates.
As such, its hub is the mythical Turtle Island. Perhaps not everyone may know the origin of the association between the Caribbean island and the buccaneers.
There was a time that the turtle was an island inhabited by hunters of feral pigs and cows, living in this flesh trade, that kind smoked by placing a grid called "Bucán" - hence the name by which it would famous - and then sold to passing ships in the vicinity, naturally smuggling.
Authorities in the area, the then Spanish, who held the monopoly of trade in the Caribbean does not look kindly on these activities, as well as, the Spanish viceroy sent a punitive expedition against the island. The inhabitants of this were massacred without mercy, men, women, children ... but there were many who were saved because they were hunting inside the thick forests that had on the island. When they returned to the village and found the terrible scene was sworn - were all pretty tough men, and the exercise of hunting had become sharpshooters - for, from that time, not forgiving any boat who crossed their way. Thus was born the Brotherhood of Turtle Island.
And so began an adventure that perhaps caused more damage to Caribbean and transatlantic trade that the very forces of nature. And I wonder: Was it worth doing a bit blind eye and punish a cruel way to smugglers harmless?
Today, other Caribbean: including publishing and computer; them pirates sail the likes of Sir Francis Drake and Sir Walter Raleigh - who has not heard of the hackers and crackers - there are also authorities and potentates exercising monopoly business by the patent system, and finally, simple buccaneers. These bucanes prepared in modern copies of various products that they sell on a small scale and at prices much more affordable than the originals, but most do free via download on the net.
The authorities, jealous of monopoly usually attack the latter (the Drakes will have more respect or fear) and disproportionate punishment intended for the copy of a book or a CD, created a canon absurd that we all know-and this in the name of "intellectual property."
There is no greater defender of intellectual property than I would be silly if it were not, and I intend to be a writer. But the right hides certain abuses covered in a monopoly. If a company has a patent on a computer program, for example, can put the price you want, and it will not be for a while competition in that market, and not everyone can pay eight euros for a program.
You can defend these prices based on the fact that building a technology product is very expensive, but if another similar product hits the market price may fall first half - perfect competition - which would contradict the first statement. So would not it be better to cut prices all along?
Maybe that could prevent much of the piracy would be reduced pitch technology gap between the haves and the have-nots and finally, he might deviate from taxes now used to attack this Turtle Island modern things necessary for the vast majority of society, those who do not live patents.
